$500,000 Investment Marks Next Step for Frederick Cricket Park

Washington Freedom reached another important milestone in its plans for the Frederick Cricket Park on September 17, presenting the City of Frederick with a $500,000 contribution toward regional transportation improvements.

Team representatives, including owner Sanjay Govil, joined Mayor Michael O’Connor and City staff at City Hall for the check presentation, marking a tangible investment in the infrastructure that will support the project and the surrounding community.

The contribution comes as the cricket park moves into its next phase following the Frederick City Council’s approval of the project’s rezoning in August. That decision allowed the proposed park to advance through the development process, with planning and site preparation now becoming the focus.

For Washington Freedom, the payment represents more than a project obligation. It reflects the team’s commitment to investing alongside the City as the park takes shape and to following through on the commitments made during the public review process.

Attention will now turn toward the work required to prepare the site, including initial activity associated with development of the cricket pitch. Washington Freedom will continue working with the City, its technical teams and other appropriate agencies as the project advances, while keeping residents and community partners informed along the way.

The Frederick Cricket Park is planned as the permanent home of Washington Freedom, with a 10,000-person maximum capacity that includes 5,000 permanent seats and additional grass seating. Beyond professional cricket, the broader vision remains a park-like destination with recreational and community uses integrated into the property along the Monocacy River.
